AN ACT to amend the highway law, in relation to designating a portion of
the state highway system as the "War Dog Memorial Highway"
THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM-
BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS:
1 Section 1. The highway law is amended by adding a new section 344-r to
2 read as follows:
3 § 344-R. PORTION OF THE STATE HIGHWAY SYSTEM TO BE DESIGNATED AS THE
4 "WAR DOG MEMORIAL HIGHWAY". ALL THAT PORTION OF THE STATE HIGHWAY SYSTEM
5 CONSTITUTING STATE ROUTE 28 IN THE VILLAGE OF HERKIMER, COUNTY OF
6 HERKIMER, BEGINNING AT THE INTERSECTION OF STATE ROUTE 28 AND CANAL
7 ACCESS ROAD, CONTINUING IN A GENERALLY NORTHERLY DIRECTION, AND TERMI-
8 NATING AT THE INTERSECTION OF STATE ROUTE 28 AND STATE ROUTE 5, SHALL BE
9 DESIGNATED AND KNOWN AS THE "WAR DOG MEMORIAL HIGHWAY".
10 § 2. The commissioner of transportation shall provide for the instal-
11 lation and maintenance of adequate signing of the state highway system
12 as designated pursuant to section one of this act. However, to avoid
13 confusion and to limit any possible disruption of commerce, the desig-
14 nation called for pursuant to section one of this act shall be one of
15 ceremonial nature and the official name of such highway shall not be
16 changed as a result of this act.
17 § 3. This act shall take effect immediately.
