        Introduced  by  Sen.  RHOADS -- read twice and ordered printed, and when
          printed to be committed to the Committee on Rules

        AN ACT to amend the highway law, in relation to dedicating a portion  of
          the state highway system to William Cornell

          THE  PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM-
        BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS:

     1    Section 1. The highway law is amended by adding a new section 345-d to
     2  read as follows:
     3    § 345-D. PORTION OF STATE HIGHWAY SYSTEM TO BE  DEDICATED  TO  WILLIAM
     4  CORNELL.  THE  WALKING  PATH ON THE NORTHBOUND SIDE OF THE WANTAGH STATE
     5  PARKWAY FROM ROUTE TWENTY-SEVEN TO JERUSALEM AVENUE  IN  THE  HAMLET  OF
     6  WANTAGH,  TOWN  OF  HEMPSTEAD,  COUNTY  OF NASSAU, SHALL BE DEDICATED TO
     7  WILLIAM CORNELL.
     8    § 2. The commissioner of transportation shall provide for the  instal-
     9  lation  and  maintenance of adequate signing of the state highway system
    10  as dedicated pursuant to section one of this  act,  provided  that  such
    11  signing shall state "William Cornell memorial trail".  However, to avoid
    12  confusion  and  to  limit any possible disruption of commerce, the dedi-
    13  cation called for pursuant to section one of this act shall  be  one  of
    14  ceremonial  nature and the official name of such walking trail shall not
    15  be changed as a result of this act.
    16    § 3. This act shall take effect immediately.
