        Introduced  by Sen. MARTINEZ -- read twice and ordered printed, and when
          printed to be committed to the Committee on Transportation

        AN ACT to amend the highway law, in relation to dedicating a portion  of
          the  state highway system to Trooper Gerard B. Kane and Trooper Arthur
          A. Reddy

          THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND  ASSEM-
        BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS:

     1    Section 1. The highway law is amended by adding a new section 344-s to
     2  read as follows:
     3    § 344-S. PORTION OF THE STATE HIGHWAY SYSTEM TO BE DEDICATED TO TROOP-
     4  ER  GERARD  B.  KANE  AND  TROOPER  ARTHUR A. REDDY. THE BRIDGE OVER THE
     5  SOUTHERN STATE PARKWAY ON DEER PARK AVENUE BETWEEN  PARKDALE  DRIVE  AND
     6  SYLVAN  ROAD  IN  THE TOWN OF BABYLON, COUNTY OF SUFFOLK, SHALL BE DEDI-
     7  CATED TO TROOPER GERARD B. KANE AND TROOPER ARTHUR A. REDDY.
     8    § 2. The commissioner of transportation shall provide for the  instal-
     9  lation  and  maintenance of adequate signing of the state highway system
    10  as dedicated pursuant to section one of this  act,  provided  that  such
    11  signing  shall  state  "Bridge  Dedicated  to  Trooper Gerard B Kane and
    12  Trooper Arthur A Reddy". However, to avoid confusion and  to  limit  any
    13  possible  disruption  of commerce, the dedication called for pursuant to
    14  section one of this act shall be one of ceremonial nature and the  offi-
    15  cial name of such bridge shall not be changed as a result of this act.
    16    § 3. This act shall take effect immediately.
