        Introduced  by  Sen. HINCHEY -- read twice and ordered printed, and when
          printed to be committed to the Committee on Elections

        AN ACT to amend the election law, in relation to requiring the board  of
          elections to notify victims of domestic violence whose registration is
          maintained as confidential of the expiration of the confidentiality of
          such registration records

          THE  PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM-
        BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS:

     1    Section 1. Subdivision 2 of section  5-508  of  the  election  law  is
     2  amended by adding a new paragraph (c) to read as follows:
     3    (C)  THE  BOARD  OF  ELECTIONS SHALL PROVIDE A NOTICE OF THE FOUR-YEAR
     4  PERIOD'S EXPIRATION DATE TO  EACH  VICTIM  OF  DOMESTIC  VIOLENCE  WHOSE
     5  REGISTRATION  IS  MAINTAINED  AS  CONFIDENTIAL  IN  ACCORDANCE WITH THIS
     6  SECTION. SUCH NOTICE SHALL INCLUDE INFORMATION ON THE APPLICATION  PROC-
     7  ESS  TO EXTEND SUCH FOUR-YEAR PERIOD. SUCH NOTICE SHALL BE MAILED TO THE
     8  VICTIM OF DOMESTIC VIOLENCE NO LATER THAN SIX MONTHS PRIOR TO THE  EXPI-
     9  RATION OF SUCH FOUR-YEAR PERIOD.
    10    § 2. This act shall take effect immediately.
