A BILL TO BE ENTITLED 1
AN ACT TO PROVIDE THAT REGULAR MUNICIPAL ELECTIONS FOR THE TOWN OF 2
FAITH SHALL BE HELD IN EVEN -NUMBERED YEA RS AND TO EXTEND THE 3
TERMS OF OFFICE FOR MEMBERS OF THE BOARD OF ALDERMEN IN THE TOWN 4
OF FAITH FROM TWO YEARS TO FOUR YEARS. 5
The General Assembly of North Carolina enacts: 6
SECTION 1. Section 4 of the Charter of the Town of Faith, being Chapter 363 of 7
the Private Laws of 1903, as rewritten by Chapter 159 of the 1961 Session Laws and Chapter 8
1111 of the 1979 Session Laws, reads as rewritten: 9
"Sec. 4. Elections in the Town of Faith shall be held at the time of the general election in each 10
even-numbered year. Except as otherwise provided, the election shall be conducted in accordance 11
with Subchapter IX of the uniform municipal election laws in Chapter 163 of the General 12
Statutes." 13
SECTION 2. Section 3 of the Charter of the Town of Faith, being Chapter 363 of 14
the Private Laws of 1903, as rewritten by Chapter 159 of the 1961 Session Laws, reads as 15
rewritten: 16
"Sec. 3. That the officers of said Town shall consist of five aldermen, elected to serve a 17
four-year term who shall elect one of their number as mayor. The mayor and aldermen when 18
qualified as required by law, may elect a town clerk, a tax collector, a treasurer, such policemen 19
and other officers necessary to the preservation and regulation of the Town's best interests." 20
SECTION 3. No municipal elections shall be conducted in the Town of Faith in 21
2025. The terms of office for the aldermen in the Town of Faith serving on the effective date of 22
this act shall be extended by one year. Regula r municipal elections shall be conducted in the 23
Town of Faith every four years beginning in 2026. In 2026 and quadrennially thereafter, five 24
aldermen shall be elected to serve four-year terms. 25
SECTION 4. This act is effective when it becomes law and applies to elections held 26
on or after that date. 27
