A BILL TO BE ENTITLED 1
AN ACT TO REQUIRE TH E DIVISION OF MOTOR VEHICLES OF THE DEPA RTMENT 2
OF TRANSPORTATION TO PROVIDE MATERIALS REQUIRED FOR LICENSURE IN 3
ADDITIONAL LANGUAGES. 4
The General Assembly of North Carolina enacts: 5
SECTION 1. G.S. 20-7 is amended by adding a new subsection to read: 6
"(c2) Provision of Materials in Additional Languages. – The Division shall provide an 7
option for applicants to (i) receive the driver license handbook prepared pursuant to G.S. 20-88.1 8
and (ii) take the written test required for licensure under this section in all of the following 9
languages: 10
(1) Khmer. 11
(2) Each language that is the primary language of at least two percent (2%) of the 12
State's population." 13
SECTION 2. This act becomes effective January 1, 2026. 14
