A BILL TO BE ENTITLED 1
AN ACT WAIVING THE F EE TO RENEW A DRIVER S LICENSE WITH AN AC TIVE 2
DUTY MILITARY DESIGNATION OR A VETERAN MILITARY DESIGNATION. 3
The General Assembly of North Carolina enacts: 4
SECTION 1. G.S. 20-7 reads as rewritten: 5
"§ 20-7. Issuance and renewal of drivers licenses. 6

(i) Fees. – The fee for a regular drivers license is the amount set in the following table 8
multiplied by the number of years in the period for which the license is issued: 9
Class of Regular License Fee for Each Year 10
Class A $5.50 11
Class B $5.50 12
Class C $5.50 13
The fee for a motorcycle endorsement is two dollars and fifty-five cents ($2.55) for each year 14
of the period for which the endorsement is issued. The appropriate fee shall be paid before a 15
person receives a regular drivers license or an endorsement. 16
The fee to renew a drivers license shall be waived for any license with : (i) an active duty 17
military designation pursuant to subsection (q) of this section or (ii) a veteran military designation 18
pursuant to subsection (q1) of this section. 19

SECTION 2. This act becomes effective July 1, 2025, and applies to licenses 21
renewed on or after that date. 22
