PHONE NUMBER AND NC PEER WARMLINE PHONE NUMBER IN VARIOUS 3
WAYS. 4
The General Assembly of North Carolina enacts: 5
SECTION 1. G.S. 115C-47 is amended by adding the following new subdivision to 6
read: 7
"(70) To Provide Students the Suicide and Crisis Lifeline Phone Number and the 8
NC Peer Warmline Phone Number . – A local board of education shall adopt 9
a policy to ensure all schools in the local school administrative unit provide 10
students the phone number s for the Suicide and Crisis Lifeline and the NC 11
Peer Warmline. The board shall verify that the phone numbers for the Lifeline 12
and the Warmline are current and accurate annually . If either phone number 13
has changed, schools shall use the updated phone number. Unless an updated 14
phone number exists, the schools shall have the phrases "To reach the Suicide 15
and Crisis Lifeline, call 988 or text HOME to 741741" and "To reach the NC 16
Peer Warmline, call 855-733-7762" in the following places: 17
a. On any new student identification (student ID) issued to a student in 18
grades six through 12. The text shall be in a conspicuous location on 19
the student ID. The text may be printed on the ID or affixed by sticker. 20
Nothing in this subdivision requires a school to issue a student ID. 21
b. On the school website. 22
c. On the home screen of any electronic device issued to students. 23
d. On any school agenda or calendar, whether digital or printed. 24
e. On a document during any suicide awareness activity. 25
f. On a document when the student registers to attend the school." 26
SECTION 2. G.S. 115C-150.12C is amended by adding a new subdivision to read: 27
"(37) To provide students the Suicide and Crisis Lifeline phone number and the NC 28
Peer Warmline phone number. – The board of trustees shall provide students 29
the phone number s for the Suicide and Crisis Lifeline and the NC Peer 30
Warmline. The board shall verify that the phone numbers for the Lifeline and 31
the Warmline are current and accurate annually . If either phone number has 32
changed, the board shall use the updated phone number. Unless an updated 33
phone number exists, the board shall have the phrases "To reach the Suicide 34
and Crisis Lifeline, call 988 or text HOME to 741741" and "To reach the NC 35
Peer Warmline, call 855-733-7762" in the following places: 36

a. On any new student identification (student ID) issued to a student in 1
grades six through 12. The text shall be in a conspicuous location on 2
the student ID. The text may be printed on the ID or affixed by sticker. 3

c. On the home screen of any electronic device issued to students. 6
d. On any school agenda or calendar, whether digital or printed. 7
e. On a document during any suicide awareness activity. 8

SECTION 3. G.S. 115C-218.75 is amended by adding a new subsection to read: 10
"(p) To Provide Students the Suicide and Crisis Lifeline Phone Number and the NC Peer 11
Warmline Phone Number. – A charter school shall provide students the phone number s for the 12
Suicide and Crisis Lifeline and the NC Peer Warmline . The school shall verify that the phone 13
numbers for the Lifeline and the Warmline are current and accurate annually. If either phone 14
number has changed, the school shall use the updated phone number. Unless an updated phone 15
number exists, the school shall have the phrase s "To reach the Suicide and Crisis Lifeline, call 16
988 or text HOME to 741741" and "To reach the NC Peer Warmline, call 855-733-7762" in the 17
following places: 18
(1) On any new student identification (student ID) issued to a student in grade s 19
six through 12. The text shall be in a conspicuous location on the student ID. 20
The text may be printed on the ID or affixed by sticker. Nothing in this 21
subsection requires a school to issue a student ID. 22
(2) On the school website. 23
(3) On the home screen of any electronic device issued to students. 24
(4) On any school agenda or calendar, whether digital or printed. 25
(5) On a document during any suicide awareness activity. 26
(6) On a document when the student registers to attend the school." 27
SECTION 4. G.S. 115C-238.66 is amended by adding a new subdivision to read: 28
"(23) To provide students the Suicide and Crisis Lifeline phone number and the NC 29
Peer Warmline phone number. – A regional school shall provide students the 30
phone numbers for the Suicide and Crisis Lifeline and the NC Peer Warmline. 31
The school shall verify that the phone number s for the Lifeline and the 32
Warmline are current and accurate annually. If either phone number has 33
changed, the school shall use the updated phone nu mber. Unless an updated 34
phone number exists, the school shall have the phrases "To reach the Suicide 35
and Crisis Lifeline, call 988 or text HOME to 741741" and "To reach the NC 36
Peer Warmline, call 855-733-7762" in the following places: 37
a. On any new student identification (student ID) issued to a student in 38
grades six through 12. The text shall be in a conspicuous location on 39
the student ID. The text may be printed on the ID or affixed by sticker. 40

SECTION 5. G.S. 116-239.8(b) is amended by adding a new subdivision to read: 47
"(26) To provide students the Suicide and Crisis Lifeline phone number and the NC 48
Peer Warmline phone number . – A laboratory school shall provide students 49
the phone number s for the Suicide and Crisis Lifeline and the NC Peer 50
Warmline. The school shall verify that the phone numbers for the Lifeline and 51

the Warmline are current and accurate annually. If either phone number has 1
changed, the school sha ll use the updated phone number. Unless an updated 2
phone number exists, the school shall have the phrases "To reach the Suicide 3
and Crisis Lifeline, call 988 or text HOME to 741741" and "To reach the NC 4
Peer Warmline, call 855-733-7762" in the following places: 5
a. On any new student identification (student ID) issued to a student in 6
grades six through 12. The text shall be in a conspicuous location on 7

SECTION 6. Part 1 of Article 39 of Chapter 115C of the General Statutes is amended 15
by adding a new section to read: 16
"§ 115C-550.2. Provide students the Suicide and Crisis Lifeline phone number and the NC 17
Peer Warmline phone number. 18
Each private ch urch school or school of religious charter shall provide students the phone 19
numbers for the Suicide and Crisis Lifeline and the NC Peer Warmline. The school shall verify 20
that the phone numbers for the Lifeline and the Warmline are current and accurate annually. If 21
either phone number has changed, the school shall use the updated phone number. Unless an 22
updated phone number exists, the school shall have the phrases "To reach the Suicide and Crisis 23
Lifeline, call 988 or text HOME to 741741 " and "To reach the NC Peer Warmline, call 24
855-733-7762" in the following places: 25
(1) On any new student identification (student ID) issued to a student in grade s 26
six through 12. The text shall be in a conspicuous location on the student ID. 27
The text may be printed on the ID or affixed by sticker. Nothing in this section 28
requires a school to issue a student ID. 29
(2) On the school website. 30
(3) On the home screen of any electronic device issued to students. 31
(4) On any school agenda or calendar, whether digital or printed. 32

SECTION 7. Part 2 of Article 39 of Chapter 115C of the General Statutes is amended 35
by adding a new section to read: 36
"§ 115C-558.2. Provide students the Suicide and Crisis Lifeline phone number and the NC 37
Peer Warmline phone number. 38
Each qualified nonpublic school shall provide students the phone number s for the Suicide 39
and Crisis Lifeline and the NC Peer Warmline . The school shall verify that the phone number s 40
for the Lifeline and the Warmline are current and accurate annually. If either phone number has 41
changed, the school shall use the updated phone number. Unless an updated phone number exists, 42
the school shall have the phrases "To reach the Suicide and Crisis Lifeline, call 988 or text HOME 43
to 741741" and "To reach the NC Peer Warmline, call 855-733-7762" in the following places: 44
(1) On any new student identification (student ID) issued to a student in grade s 45
six through 12. The text shall be in a conspicuous location on the student ID. 46
The text may be printed on the ID or affixed by sticker. Nothing in this section 47
requires a school to issue a student ID. 48
(2) On the school website. 49
(3) On the home screen of any electronic device issued to students. 50

SECTION 8. G.S. 115D-5 is amended by adding a new subsection to read: 3
"(aa) The State Board of Community Colleges shall adopt a policy requiring all community 4
colleges to provide students the phone number s for the Suicide and Crisis Lifeline and the NC 5
Peer Warmline. The State Board shall verify that the phone number s for the Lifeline and the 6
Warmline are current and accurate annually. If either phone number has changed, the community 7
colleges shall use the updated phone number. Unless an updated phone number exists, the 8
community colleges shall have the phrases "To reach the Suicide and Crisis Lifeline, call 988 or 9
text HOME to 741741 " and "To reach the NC Peer Warmline, call 855 -733-7762" in the 10
following places: 11
(1) On any new student identification (student ID) issued. The text shall be in a 12
conspicuous location on the student ID. The text may be printed on the ID or 13
affixed by sticker. Nothing in this subsection requires a scho ol to issue a 14
student ID. 15
(2) On the school website. 16
(3) On the home screen of any electronic device issued to students. 17
(4) On any school agenda or calendar, whether digital or printed. 18
(5) On a document during any suicide awareness activity. 19
(6) On a document when the student registers to attend the school." 20
SECTION 9. G.S. 116-11 is amended by adding a new subdivision to read: 21
"(3d) The Board of Governors shall adopt a policy requiring all constituent 22
institutions to provide students the phone number s for the Suicide and Crisis 23
Lifeline and the NC Peer Warmline. The Board of Governors shall verify that 24
the phone numbers for the Lifeline and the Warmline are current and accurate 25
annually. If either phone number has changed, the constituent institutions shall 26
use the updated phone number. Unless an updated phone number exists, the 27
constituent institutions shall have the phrases "To reach the Suicide and Crisis 28
Lifeline, call 988 or text HOME to 741741 " and "To reach the NC Peer 29
Warmline, call 855-733-7762" in the following places: 30
a. On any new student identification (student ID) issued. The text shall 31
be in a conspicuous location on the student ID. The text may be printed 32
on the ID or affixed by sticker. Nothing in this s ubdivision requires a 33
school to issue a student ID. 34
b. On the school website. 35
c. On the home screen of any electronic device issued to students. 36
d. On any school agenda or calendar, whether digital or printed. 37
e. On a document during any suicide awareness activity. 38
f. On a document when the student registers to attend the school." 39
SECTION 10. This act is effective when it becomes law and applies beginning with 40
the 2025-2026 school year. 41
