A BILL TO BE ENTITLED 1
AN ACT TO STUDY THE STAFFING REQUIREMENTS AND SALARY SCALES OF THE 2
STATE HIGHWAY PATROL. 3
The General Assembly of North Carolina enacts: 4
SECTION 1. The State Highway Patrol shall study and develop legislative 5
recommendations regarding each of the following State Highway Patrol items: 6
(1) The overall staffing size based on the needs of the State. 7
(2) The troop staffing size based on the needs of specific regions of the State. 8
(3) The overall salary scale of the Patrol. 9
(4) The salary scale of each rank within the Patrol. 10
SECTION 2. No later than March 1, 2026, the State Highway Patrol shall report to 11
the Joint Legislative Oversight Committee on Justi ce and Public Safety, the House 12
Appropriations Committee on Justice and Public Safety, and the Senate Appropriations 13
Committee on Justice and Public Safety regarding the findings and recommendations required 14
by Section 1 of this act. 15
SECTION 3. This act is effective when it becomes law. 16
