A SENATE RESOLUTION ELECTING LEIGH JEFFREYS FANNING TO THE BOARD OF 1
GOVERNORS OF THE UNIVERSITY OF NORTH CAROLINA. 2
Whereas, O. Temple Sloan, III, of Wake County was elected by the Senate in 2023 to 3
serve as a member of the Board of Governors of The University of North Carolina for a term of 4
four years; and 5
Whereas, O. Temple Sloan, III, resigned from the Board of Governors of The 6
University of North Carolina in April 2025; and 7
Whereas, G.S. 116-7(c) directs the chamber that originally elected a vacating member 8
of the Board of Governors of The University of North Carolina to elect a person to fill that 9
vacancy for the remainder of the unexpired term; and 10
Whereas, the Senate may determine its own procedure, and the Chair of the Senate 11
Select Committee o n Nominations has confirmed that Leigh Jeffreys Fanning has no 12
disqualifying statutory disabilities; Now, therefore, 13
Be it resolved by the Senate: 14
SECTION 1. Based upon the resignation of O. Temple Sloan, III, Leigh Jeffreys 15
Fanning of Pitt County is elected to the Board of Governors of The University of North Carolina 16
for a term commencing upon the effective date of this resolution and ending June 30, 2027. 17
SECTION 2. This resolution is effective upon adoption. 18
