Short Title: Early Voting Procedures at Fire Stations. (Public)

A BILL TO BE ENTITLED 1
AN ACT TO ENSURE CER TAIN PROVISIONS ARE IN PLACE AT EARLY VO TING 2
SITES LOCATED AT FIRE STATIONS. 3
The General Assembly of North Carolina enacts: 4
SECTION 1. G.S. 163-166.35 is amended by adding a new subsection to read: 5
"(d1) For early voting occurring at fire stations, county boards of elections shall do each of 6
the following: 7
(1) Provide traffic control measures. 8
(2) Provide security as a physical safeguard for county board staff and officials, 9
voters, and fire station staff at the voting place. 10
(3) Provide phone support for voters needing assistance with matters pertaining 11
to the elections process. 12
(4) Provide sufficient signage on election day to voters if the same fire station will 13
not be a voting place on election day. 14
(5) Agree to indemnify and h old harmless a fire station for any claims for 15
damages to voters or property arising from use of the fire station as a voting 16
place while engaged in the voting process. 17
(6) Ensure service levels for those fire stations are not affected, including entrance 18
and exit accessibility." 19
SECTION 2. This act is effective when it becomes law and applies to elections 20
occurring on or after that date. 21
