c o n c u r r e n t R E S O L U T I O N
To
urge the Baseball Writers' Association of America and the National
Baseball Hall of Fame to include Peter Edward "Pete" Rose
on the Hall of Fame ballot.
BE
IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF OHIO (THE
SENATE CONCURRING):
WHEREAS,
Peter Edward "Pete" Rose is the all-time leader in hits, at
bats, and games played in Major League Baseball, and is the only
Major League Baseball player to play more than 500 games at five
different positions; and
WHEREAS,
Rose is a seventeen-time Major League Baseball All Star, is the only
player to be an All Star at five different positions, and is the
winner of two Gold Gloves, the Rookie of the Year award, three
batting titles, a Most Valuable Player award, and three World Series
titles, two with the Cincinnati Reds and one with the Philadelphia
Phillies; and
WHEREAS,
Rose managed the Cincinnati Reds beginning in 1984 until 1989,
compiling a record of 426-388, the fifth most wins by a manager in
Reds history; and
WHEREAS,
On August 24, 1989, Rose voluntarily accepted a permanent place on
Major League Baseball's ineligible list in response to a Major League
Baseball investigation concerning his gambling activities, including
gambling on baseball games; and
WHEREAS,
On May 13, 2025, Rose was reinstated to Major League Baseball and is
now eligible to be considered for Hall of Fame induction; now
therefore be it
RESOLVED,
That we, the members of the 136th General Assembly of the State of
Ohio, urge the Baseball Writers' Association of America and the
Classic Baseball Era Committee of the National Baseball Hall of Fame
to include Pete Rose on the next Hall of Fame ballot; and be it
further
RESOLVED,
That the Clerk of the House of Representatives transmit duly
authenticated copies of this resolution to Major League Baseball
Commissioner Robert Manfred, the Baseball Writers' Association of
America, National Baseball Hall of Fame, and the news media of Ohio.
