c o n c u r r e n t R E S O L U T I O N
To
encourage students in grades one through twelve to read, study, and
discuss the U.S. Declaration of Independence in the classroom during
the 2025-2026 school year in celebration of its 250th anniversary.
BE
IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF OHIO (THE
SENATE CONCURRING):
WHEREAS,
The 250th anniversary of the signing of the U.S. Declaration of
Independence is on July 4, 2026; and
WHEREAS,
The United States Semiquincentennial Commission was established by
Congress in 2016 to plan and orchestrate the 250th anniversary of the
signing of the Declaration of Independence of the United States; and
WHEREAS,
President Donald Trump established Task Force 250 to provide a grand
celebration worthy of the momentous occasion of the 250th anniversary
of American Independence and to honor the history of our great
Nation; and
WHEREAS,
Students and schools should join in the meaningful celebrations
taking place nationally in recognition of the 250th anniversary of
the Declaration of Independence; and
WHEREAS,
An understanding of the founding documents, especially the
Declaration of Independence, is an important component of each
student's education; now therefore be it
RESOLVED,
That we, the members of the 136th General Assembly of the State of
Ohio, encourage students in grades one through twelve to join in the
national celebration of the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of
Independence by reading, studying, and discussing it in the classroom
during the 2025-2026 school year; and be it further
RESOLVED,
That we encourage schools to provide formal classroom time for
students to read, study and discuss the Declaration of Independence
during the 2025-2026 school year; and be it further
RESOLVED,
That the Clerk of the House of Representatives transmit duly
authenticated copies of this resolution to the President of the
United States, the Director of Education and Workforce, and the news
media of Ohio.
