c o n c u r r e n t R E S O L U T I O N
Honoring
the longstanding partnership between the Province of Québec and the
State of Ohio.
BE
IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF OHIO (THE
SENATE CONCURRING):
WHEREAS,
Québec maintains close ties with the State of Ohio, notably through
their involvement in the Conference of the Great Lakes and St.
Lawrence Governors and Premiers, and the Great Lakes-St. Lawrence
Legislative Caucus; and
WHEREAS,
Québec and the State of Ohio, as well as by the provinces and cities
involved in the Great Lakes-St. Lawrence Conference, the Great
Lakes-St. Lawrence Legislative Caucus, and the Great Lakes and St.
Lawrence Cities Initiatives attach importance to issues relating to
water, trade and the environment; and
WHEREAS,
The Great Lakes and St. Lawrence states and provinces manage together
20% of the world's surface fresh water and provide drinking water for
over 40 million people, emphasizing the importance of their
relationship and their strategic position in terms of freshwater
management and sustainability; and
WHEREAS,
The Great Lakes and St. Lawrence states and provinces together
constitute an economic region equivalent to the world's third largest
economy; and
WHEREAS,
Québec and Ohio both strive to support and improve tourism in the
Great Lakes-St. Lawrence region and to promote sustainable tourism;
and
WHEREAS,
Over the past five years, trade between Québec and Ohio has
increased by nearly 20%; and
WHEREAS,
Québec is Ohio's second largest investor among Canadian provinces
and ranks as the sixth largest trading partner of Ohio; and
WHEREAS,
In 2023, Québec was a critical supplier for Ohio's aerospace and
transport sector, enhancing the state's technological innovation and
global competitiveness; and
WHEREAS,
Québec was the United States' principal partner in primary aluminum
in 2023; and
WHEREAS,
Québec has significantly contributed to Ohio's transportation and
automotive sectors, ranking second among international importers of
Ohio-made trucks, tractors, diesel engines, spark ignition and piston
engines, and ranking third for motor cars, trailers, and parts for
motor vehicles; and
WHEREAS,
Nearly 25 Québec-owned companies currently operate in Ohio while
more than 70 Ohio-based businesses maintain operations in Québec,
directly creating jobs and stimulating local economies; and
WHEREAS,
Québec holds recognized expertise in quantum computing, a field of
emerging importance that aligns with Ohio's own interests in
developing advanced technology industries; and
WHEREAS,
Both Québec and Ohio maintain expertise and leadership in the
aerospace industry with partnerships among many significant
institutions and companies; now therefore be it
RESOLVED,
That the members of this body honor the decades-long partnership
between the Province of Québec and the State of Ohio and reaffirm
its commitment to the strengthening and deepening of its sister-state
relationship; and be it further
RESOLVED,
That the Clerk of the House of Representatives transmit a duly
authenticated copy of this Resolution to the news media of Ohio and
to the National Assembly of Québec.
