As Adopted by the House 136th General Assembly Regular Session H. R. No. 130 2025-2026 Representative Russo A R E S O L U T I O N Recognizing May 2025 as ALS Awareness Month. WHEREAS, The members of the House of Representatives of the 136th General Assembly of Ohio are pleased to recognize May 2025 as Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis Awareness Month in Ohio; and WHEREAS, A progressive neurodegenerative disease, ALS, which is also known as Lou Gehrig’s Disease, negatively affects the nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord that control the nerves and muscles in the body, and within five years of being diagnosed, the person will often lose the ability to speak, walk, swallow, and breathe and will then die. People diagnosed with ALS eventually need continuous care, twenty-four hours a day, every day, and they are dependent on their families and caregivers completely. Educating the populace about the existence and outcomes of this condition and the efforts done to combat it are at the heart of ALS Awareness Month; and WHEREAS, There is much we do not know about ALS, and it is through initiatives such as ALS Awareness Month and the National ALS Registry that we can encourage individuals to help create a world where the disease is better understood and hopefully a cure is found. We have faith that by recognizing this month, we can assist those afflicted with this debilitating illness; and WHEREAS, As medical advances continue and what was previously considered impossible becomes commonplace, undertakings such as this are a fine reminder of the collective power of people unified behind a cause. Educating the community during the month of May about the fight against ALS is undoubtedly a worthy endeavor, and it will help us forge a brighter future; therefore be it RESOLVED, That we, the members of the House of Representatives of the 136th General Assembly of Ohio, in adopting this Resolution, recognize May 2025 as Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis Awareness Month in Ohio and urge Ohioans to educate themselves about this disorder; and be it further RESOLVED, That the Clerk of the House of Representatives transmit duly authenticated copies of this Resolution to the news media of Ohio.
