A R E S O L U T I O N

Honoring
Derrick Taylor as a 2025 Division II State Track and Field Champion.

WHEREAS,
The members of the House of Representatives of the 136th General
Assembly of Ohio are pleased to pay tribute to Derrick Taylor on
placing first in the shot put and discus at the 2025 Division II
State Track and Field Meet; and

WHEREAS,
Derrick Taylor’s outstanding ability and spirited drive, as well as
his strength and tenacity, have distinguished him as a superior
athlete, and during the season, he has gained the respect of all
those who have witnessed him in action. A senior at South Point High
School, he has proven himself to be one of the finest athletes in
Ohio, as evidenced by his first-place throws of 65 feet, 6 inches in
the shot put and 185 feet, 6 inches in the discus at this year’s
Division II State Track and Field Meet; and

WHEREAS,
Few sports embody the spirit of individual accomplishment more than
track and field, and athletes such as Derrick Taylor exemplify the
qualities necessary for excellence in any sport, including
discipline, agility, conditioning, and focus. Indeed, he has earned
the appreciation of his fellow athletes, the devotion of countless
fans, and the respect of even his most determined rivals, and the
numerous honors he has received this season, including being named
the 2025 Gatorade Ohio Male Track and Field Athlete of the Year, are
a testament to his remarkable prowess and drive; and

WHEREAS,
In an educational system that seeks to teach the future leaders of
our state and nation the fundamentals of self-reliance and the
rewards of individual effort, high school athletic competition has
become a valuable tool. Through his participation in sports, Derrick
Taylor has learned to meet challenges with enthusiasm and resolve;
therefore be it

RESOLVED,
That we, the members of the House of Representatives of the 136th
General Assembly of Ohio, in adopting this Resolution, recognize
Derrick Taylor on his outstanding achievement at the 2025 Division II
State Track and Field Meet and offer best wishes for the years ahead;
and be it further

RESOLVED,
That the Clerk of the House of Representatives transmit a duly
authenticated copy of this Resolution to Derrick Taylor.
