Honoring
the Barnesville State Theater on its One Hundredth Anniversary.

WHEREAS,
The members of the House of Representatives of the 136th General
Assembly of Ohio are pleased to pay tribute to the Barnesville State
Theater on its Centennial; and

WHEREAS,
The Barnesville State Theater has become one of the most esteemed and
prized landmarks in the area, and congratulations are in order on its
One Hundredth Anniversary. First opening in 1925 as a venue for live
shows and movies, it closed in 1969 and later housed a carpet store
and then a thrift store before falling into disrepair, and since
being donated to the community by a local benefactor in 2009, it is
being slowly restored to its original glory by a dedicated group of
volunteers; and

WHEREAS,
The Barnesville State Theater once experienced tremendous prosperity
by providing an outstanding service to local residents, and thanks to
the efforts of area citizens who are endeavoring to rehabilitate the
site, it is sure to become an important resource for the area one
again. In a time when so many seem content to let iconic structures
slip into obscurity and obsolescence, it is reassuring to note that
examples of our nation’s strong artistic heritage are being
preserved and protected for the benefit of future generations; and

WHEREAS,
The Barnesville State Theater has had a significant impact on the
area, and all those involved in the restoration and maintenance of
the building are to be applauded for their vision and enthusiasm in
working to preserve not only a fine structure but a vital piece of
the community’s heritage. As they commemorate the theater’s One
Hundredth Anniversary, they can reflect with pride on its exciting
past and look forward to a prosperous future; therefore be it

RESOLVED,
That we, the members of the House of Representatives of the 136th
General Assembly of Ohio, in adopting this Resolution, recognize the
Barnesville State Theater on the occasion of its One Hundredth
Anniversary and offer best wishes for the years ahead; and be it
further

RESOLVED,
That the Clerk of the House of Representatives transmit a duly
authenticated copy of this Resolution to the Barnesville State
Theater.
