A resolution

To urge the United States Department of Justice to expedite work to
connect the national crime information center (NCIC) and NamUs
databases.

Be it resolved
by the House of Representatives of the State of Ohio:

WHEREAS,
In 2022, the federal Help Find the Missing Act, otherwise known as
Billy's Law, was signed into law and requires
the
United States Department of Justice to connect the national crime
information center (NCIC) and NamUs databases to allow the automatic
transfer of missing persons case information between systems; and

WHEREAS,
The Ohio Missing Persons Working Group recently conducted an
examination of missing persons investigations to determine how to
better increase the number of successful missing persons
investigations and reunited families, and found no
evidence
that the automatic transfer of cases between NCIC and NamUs is
occurring
;
now therefore be it

RESOLVED,
The House of Representatives of the state of Ohio urges the United
States Department of Justice to expedite work to connect the NCIC and
NamUs databases as required by Billy's Law; and be it further

RESOLVED,
That the Clerk of the House of Representatives transmit a duly
authenticated copy of this Resolution to the United States Attorney
General.
