Assembly of Ohio are pleased to extend special recognition to
Tallmadge Church on the memorable occasion of its Two Hundredth
Anniversary; and

This is an important milestone, and celebration is certainly in
order. Built by Lemuel Porter to house the Congregational Church of
Tallmadge and dedicated on September 8, 1825, Tallmadge Church is a
Federal-style structure featuring a two-story portico with four large
columns and a one-hundred-foot-tall steeple with a copper
weathervane. The building was donated to the Ohio History Connection
in 1971, two years after its congregation moved to a new edifice, and
today, it is managed locally by the City of Tallmadge, which rents it
out for weddings and events; and

WHEREAS,
Those who have nurtured and sustained Tallmadge Church merit praise
for their remarkable initiative, diligence, and resolve. With a
wealth of vision and vitality, they have shown how very much can be
accomplished by a group of conscientious, industrious people, and
they can be proud that their unflagging commitment to education and
history has made it possible for the structure to survive; and

WHEREAS,
Tallmadge Church has enhanced the quality of life within the
surrounding area, and its contributions to the local cultural
heritage have earned it the gratitude and respect of the entire
community. We are certain that this noteworthy landmark will remain a
fine representation of the area’s past for years to come; therefore
