R E S O L U T I O N
To
recognize October 22, 2025, as the National Day Against Police
Brutality in Ohio.
BE
IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF OHIO:
WHEREAS,
October 22 has been observed across the United States since the
mid-1990s as a day to protest and reflect upon the impact of police
brutality, repression, and the criminalization of communities; and
WHEREAS,
Since the year 2000, more than 1,200 Ohioans have tragically lost
their lives to incidents of police brutality, leaving behind grieving
families and wounded communities across our state; and
WHEREAS,
The State of Ohio recognizes the profound loss of life and lasting
trauma caused by these acts of violence and affirms the need for
accountability, reform, and justice; and
WHEREAS,
October 22, 2025, provides an opportunity for Ohioans to join in
collective voice to honor those lives cut short, to listen to the
families and survivors most directly impacted, and to recommit to
building safer and more just communities; and
WHEREAS,
This day also serves as a solemn occasion for prayer, reflection, and
solidarity with all who have been affected by police violence; now
therefore be it
RESOLVED,
That we, the members of the House of Representatives of the 136th
General Assembly of the State of Ohio, do hereby recognize October
22, 2025, as the National Day Against Police Brutality in Ohio; and
be it further
RESOLVED,
That the Clerk of the House of Representatives transmit duly
authenticated copies of this resolution to the Governor and news
media of Ohio.
