A R E S O L U T I O N

Honoring
The Ohio State University football team on winning the 2024 College
Football Playoff National Championship.

WHEREAS,
The members of the House of Representatives of the 136th General
Assembly of Ohio are pleased to salute The Ohio State University
football team as the 2024 College Football Playoff National Champion;
and

WHEREAS,
Establishing a reputation for its skill and tenacity, The Ohio State
University football team is an impressive group of athletes whose
talent and teamwork are unmatched. After being selected to compete in
the inaugural twelve-team College Football Playoff, the squad
advanced through the brackets in a domineering fashion, leading for
194 out of 240 minutes in its four playoff games to defeat
competitors from the universities of Tennessee, Oregon, and Texas
before seizing the national championship title with a 34-23 win over
the University of Notre Dame, and this victory, the ninth national
crown in program history, will be celebrated for many years to come;
and

WHEREAS,
The members of The Ohio State University football team rose to the
occasion and proved themselves to be a dynamic force in collegiate
sports. During the season, the Buckeyes beat six top-ten teams,
including five top-five teams, and tied a school record with fourteen
wins in a season, and the players also posted a perfect multiyear
Academic Progress Rate score of 1,000, covering the 2019-20, 2020-21,
2021-22, and 2022-23 academic years, for the first time. Truly, these
outstanding scholar-athletes can be proud of the accomplishments that
were hard-won and well-deserved; and

WHEREAS,
By remaining faithful to the highest standards of sportsmanship and
teamwork, the members of The Ohio State University football team
primed themselves under the guidance of Coach Ryan Day and his
assistants to secure this year’s College Football Playoff National
Championship crown. During his tenure, Coach Day has compiled an
impressive .875 winning percentage, the third highest in college
football history, and has led the Buckeyes to four College Football
Playoff appearances and forty-five regular-season wins since 2019,
the most of any college in that time; therefore be it

RESOLVED,
That we, the members of the House of Representatives of the 136th
General Assembly of Ohio, in adopting this Resolution, recognize The
Ohio State University football team on its success and honor the
athletes and coaches for their tremendous prowess; and be it further

RESOLVED,
That the Clerk of the House of Representatives transmit a duly
authenticated copy of this Resolution to The Ohio State University
football team.
