Recognizing
the 74th annual National Day of Prayer, May 1, 2025.

WHEREAS,
The members of the House of Representatives of the 136th General
Assembly of Ohio are pleased to take this opportunity to recognize
May 1, 2025, as the National Day of Prayer; and

WHEREAS,
National days of prayer have long been an integral part of our
nation’s heritage, inviting all Americans to unite in prayer for
our country and its leaders. In 1952, a joint action of the United
States Congress called upon the President to set aside one day each
year as a National Day of Prayer. To perpetuate this annual
tradition, the National Day of Prayer was officially designated as
the first Thursday of every May by legislation ratified in 1988 and
revised in 1998; and

WHEREAS,
Throughout our nation’s history, in times of war and peace,
prosperity and depression, joy and sorrow, national leaders and
individuals of all stations in life have prayed for guidance, wisdom,
and strength. As we face the enormous challenges inherent in a
complex and rapidly changing world, we can draw inspiration, faith,
and courage from the religious freedom given to us by America’s
founding fathers; and

WHEREAS,
On the occasion of the National Day of Prayer, we encourage all
Ohioans to reflect on the role of religion in our society and on the
rights of all citizens to freedom of worship granted under the Ohio
Constitution and the Constitution of the United States of America. It
is our privilege and our responsibility to reflect upon the
tremendous historical significance and importance of prayer in our
society today; therefore be it

RESOLVED,
That we, the members of the House of Representatives of the 136th
General Assembly of Ohio, in adopting this Resolution, recognize the
National Day of Prayer, May 1, 2025, and, in so doing, encourage all
Ohioans to take part in this important observance; and be it further

RESOLVED,
That the Clerk of the House of Representatives transmit duly
authenticated copies of this Resolution to the news media of Ohio.
