WHEREAS,
The members of the Senate of the 136th General Assembly of Ohio are
pleased to applaud the Wood County District Public Library on the

WHEREAS,
Recognition of this prestigious milestone is a fitting tribute to the
Wood County District Public Library, for throughout its history, this
fine institution has attained a remarkable record of service to the
area. Established as the Bowling Green Library Association in 1875
with seventy-five supporters, the organization was ever-changing and
dependent on subscriptions before closing in 1888, and in 1914, the
women of the Shakespeare Round Table opened the first location of the
Bowling Green Library. Since then, it has grown into the flourishing
system that has become a pillar of its community, and it is truly
deserving of high praise; and

WHEREAS,
Since its inception, the Wood County District Public Library has
fostered education, culture, and individual growth by providing a
variety of innovative and beneficial programs and services. As a
focal point for many civic activities and a valuable instrument for
community improvement, the library system has earned the respect and
appreciation of countless patrons and has set an example of
excellence that is worthy of emulation; and

WHEREAS,
Public libraries play an important role in today’s society, serving
as receptacles of shared knowledge, information, and ideas. They
offer a means of enjoyment, self-advancement, and intellectual
development for all individuals, and as repositories for the best of
our nation’s intellectual endeavors, they are vital to the
preservation of our country’s heritage, principles, and ideals. We
are proud to note that it is through the efforts of institutions such
as the Wood County District Public Library that our state has
maintained its reputation as a friendly, productive, and pleasant
place in which to live and work; therefore be it

RESOLVED,
That we, the members of the Senate of the 136th General Assembly of
Ohio, in adopting this Resolution, commend the Wood County District
Public Library on its One Hundred Fiftieth Anniversary and extend
best wishes for continued success; and be it further

RESOLVED,
That the Clerk of the Senate transmit a duly authenticated copy of
this Resolution to the Wood County District Public Library.
