A R E S O L U T I O N

Recognizing
Rutherford B. Hayes Day in Ohio October 4, 2025.

WHEREAS,
The members of the Senate of the 136th General Assembly of Ohio are
pleased to recognize October 4, 2025, as Rutherford B. Hayes Day in
Ohio; and

WHEREAS,
Designated by Senate Bill 21 of the 136th General Assembly of Ohio
and signed into law by Governor Mike DeWine on June 5, 2025,
Rutherford B. Hayes Day in Ohio honors one of the most illustrious
figures in our state’s history. Indeed, it is fitting that this
year’s event, which coincides with the two hundred third
commemoration of his birth, be enthusiastically celebrated; and

WHEREAS,
Born on October 4, 1822, Rutherford B. Hayes was a remarkable
individual, and he combined civic concern and dedication with
selfless initiative to become a dynamic leader in Ohio. An attorney
in private practice and a staunch abolitionist who defended refugee
slaves, he served in the Union Army during the Civil War, where he
attained the rank of Major General, and he served three terms as
governor of Ohio and as a member of the House of Representatives
before being elected the 19th President of the United States; and

WHEREAS,
Rutherford B. Hayes left an indelible mark upon the history of our
state and nation, and all those who have organized commemorative
events to mark his Two Hundred Third birthday, including the members
of the Rutherford B. Hayes Heritage Society, are deserving of high
praise. Indeed, they are to be commended for their tremendous efforts
to guarantee that the past will not be forgotten, and their actions
demonstrate the potential of every individual to have a positive
effect on the quality of life in our society; therefore be it

RESOLVED,
That we, the members of the Senate of the 136th General Assembly of
Ohio, in adopting this Resolution, recognize October 4, 2025, as
Rutherford B. Hayes Day in Ohio and encourage all Ohioans to join in
events marking this celebration; and be it further

RESOLVED,
That the Clerk of the Senate transmit duly authenticated copies of
this Resolution to the Rutherford B. Hayes Heritage Society and to
the news media of Ohio.
