Nick Cayton was esteemed for being a man whose words and actions
defined his character. He was loved endlessly by his wife of eighteen
years, Lynsey, his children, Turner and Romy, his parents, Cindy and
Duwane, and his extensive circle of siblings, nieces, nephews,
grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins. Indeed, he was respected
for his unparalleled integrity, his friendliness and humor, and his
loyalty, and his absence will be keenly felt; and

The ultimate sacrifice that Nick Cayton made to protect and serve the
people of Ohio will stand as an enduring monument to him. He was a

Trooper of the Year in 2022 and played the bagpipes for the OSHP as
well as the Steel Valley Pipes and Drums, and a dutiful member of the
Ohio Army National Guard, where he was deployed twice overseas to
Iraq and Afghanistan. In addition, he was not only known for his
stalwart conduct with the Ohio State Highway Patrol but also for his
involvement with his family as well as his community, including his
stint as a coach for his son’s Canfield Little Cardinals football
team. The laurels he received in life are a tribute not only to him
but also to those he left behind, and it is our sincere hope that his
memory will be a source of comfort to those who loved and cherished
him; and

Nick Cayton’s concern for improving the quality of life in our
society was evident in the pride he took when wearing his gray shirt
and Stetson since becoming a trooper in 2012, and he will be
remembered for his devotion to duty and his meaningful endeavors with
OSHP. He demonstrated an unwavering commitment to his profession, a
legacy that will surely live on in all who are inspired by his
example, and he will be sorely missed; therefore be it
