A resolution

To support the United States of Kindness initiative to honor our
nation's 250th birthday by performing 250 acts of kindness.

Be it resolved
by the Senate of the State of Ohio:

WHEREAS,
The Values-in-Action Foundation established the Kindland initiative
to bring together communities, businesses, organizations, and schools
by recognizing and sharing the acts of kindness in an effort to
inspire a ground swell of positivity and goodness; and

WHEREAS,
The Kindland initiative was established in Ohio in 1994 with an
emphasis on Northeast Ohio, Central Ohio, Southeast Ohio, and the
Greater Cincinnati area; and

WHEREAS,
The Kindland initiative has grown into a national movement having
served 8,000 schools and trained 2.8 million students in all 50
states; and

WHEREAS,
Kindland's results in schools show that kindness improves learning,
invigorates students' mental health and sense of belonging, reduces
absenteeism, and diminishes violence; and

WHEREAS,
Kindness is proven to increase happiness, improve wellness, and
reduce anxiety and depression; and

WHEREAS,
Kindness is in Ohio's DNA, from the support of the Underground
Railroad, to the founding of Alcoholics Anonymous and United Way, to
the everyday act of neighbors helping neighbors; and

WHEREAS,
Kindland is honoring our nation's 250th birthday by creating the
National United States of Kindness initiative, encouraging all
Americans to perform 250 acts of kindness to honor our nation's past
and invigorate our nation's future; and

WHEREAS,
The United States of Kindness begins April 24th, with exactly 250
days left in the calendar year; and

WHEREAS,
Often in our history, as Ohio leads our nation follows; and

WHEREAS,
Bringing Americans together and building a kind land is the gift that
Ohio can give the nation; now therefore be it

RESOLVED,
That we, the members of the Senate of the 136th General Assembly of
the State of Ohio, encourage the members of the General Assembly to
perform one act of kindness a day, however small or large, from April
25th through December 31; and be it further

RESOLVED,
That the Clerk of the Senate transmit duly authenticated copies of
this resolution to the news media of Ohio.
