To
reaffirm Ukraine's sovereignty and to support the people of Ukraine
following the third-year anniversary of Russia's invasion of Ukraine.
BE
IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF OHIO:
WHEREAS,
On Thursday, February 24, 2022, Russia announced on television that
it had decided "to carry out a special military operation"
in Ukraine; and
WHEREAS,
Shortly thereafter, Ukraine's national emergency service reported
attacks across the country, and the foreign minister labeled it "a
full-scale invasion"; and
WHEREAS,
Military aggression has resulted in both military and civilian
casualties in Ukraine, with the Office of the United Nations High
Commissioner for Human Rights verifying a total of 41,783 civilian
casualties as of January, 2025, but stating that the actual number is
likely higher; and
WHEREAS,
Ohio is home to more than 44,000 people of Ukrainian descent, with
Ohio's largest Ukrainian community living in Northeast Ohio; now
therefore be it
RESOLVED,
That we, the members of the Senate of the 136th General Assembly of
the State of Ohio, condemn the unprovoked and unjustified attack on
Ukraine following the three-year anniversary of Russia's invasion of
Ukraine; and be it further
RESOLVED,
That we continue to pray for the people of Ukraine and those
disaffected by the war; and be it further
RESOLVED,
That we affirm Ukraine's independence, sovereignty, and territorial
integrity, as guaranteed by the United Nations Declaration on
Principles of International Law Concerning Friendly Relations and
Co-operation Among States; and be it further
RESOLVED,
That the Clerk of the Senate transmit duly authenticated copies of
this resolution to the members of the Ohio Congressional delegation
and the news media of Ohio.
