A R E S O L U T I O N

Honoring
Jesse Mendez on winning a 2025 NCAA Division I Championship in
wrestling.

WHEREAS,
The members of the Senate of the 136th General Assembly of Ohio are
pleased to celebrate Jesse Mendez as the 2025 National Collegiate
Athletic Association Division I Wrestling Champion in the 141-pound
weight class; and

WHEREAS,
A diligent and capable individual, Jesse Mendez is deserving of
acknowledgement for his exemplary accomplishments as a junior member
of The Ohio State University men’s wrestling team. An exceptional
athlete, he placed first in the 141-pound weight class with a 12-9
win over a tough University of Nebraska competitor at this year’s
NCAA Division I Championships, earning his second consecutive
national crown, and his noteworthy record of personal achievement
stands as a hallmark for others to emulate; and

WHEREAS,
Through his participation in wrestling, Jesse Mendez has learned
important lessons of discipline, perseverance, hard work, and good
sportsmanship that will undoubtedly be of immense benefit to him
throughout his life. Indeed, his outstanding efforts as a champion
Buckeye wrestler have inspired countless people to excel in various
areas of endeavor, and he has set an example deserving of
recognition; and

WHEREAS,
Few sports embody the spirit of individual accomplishment more than
wrestling, and athletes such as Jesse Mendez exemplify the qualities
necessary for great athletic prowess, including agility,
conditioning, and focus. Throughout long hours of practice and
competition, he has consistently demonstrated a degree of commitment
and dedication that will serve him well as he pursues his goals in
life; therefore be it

RESOLVED,
That we, the members of the Senate of the 136th General Assembly of
Ohio, in adopting this Resolution, applaud Jesse Mendez on his
brilliant 2024-2025 season and salute him as a fine ambassador of The
Ohio State University; and be it further

RESOLVED,
That the Clerk of the Senate transmit a duly authenticated copy of
this Resolution to Jesse Mendez.
