HOUSE BILL 1773 By: Moore

AS INTRODUCED

An Act relating to county jails; directing the county
sheriff to create an Orange Alert communication
system; requiring posting of information about the
communication system in local newspaper; requiring
residents to register for notifications; directing
the county sheriff to promulgate policies and
procedures; providing for codification; and providing
an effective date.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF OKLAHOMA:
SECTION 1. NEW LAW A new section of law to be codified
in the Oklahoma Statutes as Section 70 of Title 57, unless there is
created a duplication in numbering, reads as follows:
A. The sheriff of each county shall create for each county jail
facility within the county an "Orange Alert" communication system to
notify any resident within a radius of forty (40) miles when an
inmate of the county jail has escaped. Information regarding how to
register for an Orange Alert via the communication system shall be
posted in a newspaper of record within the county in which the

county jail facility is located. It shall be the responsibility of
each resident of the county to register to receive Orange Alert
notifications from the communication system.
B. The sheriff of each county shall promulgate policies and
procedures for establishing a county-wide Orange Alert communication
system.
SECTION 2. This act shall become effective November 1, 2025.
