A Concurrent Resolution commemorating April 14, 2025,
as Route 66 Day in the State of Oklahoma; recognizing
the historic and cultural importance of U.S. Route
66; and directing distribution.

WHEREAS, U.S. Route 66, also known as the “Mother Road”, was
established in 1926 and served as a vital artery of American
transportation, running from Chicago, Illinois, to Santa Monica,
California, with over 400 miles traversing the State of Oklahoma;
and

WHEREAS, Route 66 played a pivotal role in the migration west
during the Dust Bowl era, providing a path to opportunity and
survival for countless Oklahomans; and

WHEREAS, the communities along Route 66 in Oklahoma have long
served as vibrant centers of commerce, culture, and hospitality,
offering a unique blend of small-town charm, urban energy, and
scenic beauty; and

WHEREAS, the route has significantly contributed to Oklahoma’s
tourism industry, drawing travelers from across the nation and
around the world who seek to experience its vintage landmarks,
historic motels, neon signs, and iconic diners; and

WHEREAS, Oklahoma’s rich tribal heritage is deeply woven into
the Route 66 experience, with tribal nations preserving and sharing
cultural traditions, stories, art, and enterprises along the
historic highway; and

WHEREAS, Route 66 has become a symbol of Oklahoma’s diverse
identity, celebrating our state’s legacy of resilience, creativity,
and community spirit.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES
OF THE 1ST SESSION OF THE 60TH OKLAHOMA LEGISLATURE, THE SENATE
CONCURRING THEREIN:

THAT the Oklahoma Legislature does hereby commemorate April 11,
2025, as Route 66 Day, honoring its historical significance,
cultural richness, and ongoing impact on the State of Oklahoma.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that a copy of this resolution be
distributed to the Oklahoma Tourism and Recreation Department and
the Oklahoma Historical Society for appropriate observance and
celebration.
