A Resolution declaring February 18, 2026, as Scout
Day at the Oklahoma Capitol; recognizing the history,
importance, and work of Scouting America.
WHEREAS, Scouting America was first established by Englishman
Lord Robert Baden-Powell in 1908, and the Boy Scouts of America, the
first scouting organization in the United States, was established in
the United States on February 8, 1910; and
WHEREAS, since day one (1), Scouting America has espoused the
Scout Oath and the twelve (12) points of the Scout Law, establishing
that a Scout is Trustworthy, Loyal, Helpful, Friendly, Courteous,
Kind, Obedient, Cheerful, Thrifty, Brave, Clean, and Reverent; and
WHEREAS, Scouting America includes character development
programs such as Cub Scouts, Scouts BSA, Venturing, Sea Scouts, and
Exploring that prepare young people through career exploration and
skills enrichment programs; and

WHEREAS, Scouting America today exists in two hundred sixteen
(216) countries and territories and has fifty million (50,000,000)
members worldwide; and
WHEREAS, Scouting America’s highest honor, the Eagle Scout
award, has instilled in numerous participants a love of service and
leadership, including former Presidents of the United States,
judges, astronauts, movie producers, and many others; and
WHEREAS, the Arbuckle Area Council, Cherokee Area Council,
Indian Nations Council, and Last Frontier Council collaborate to
deliver impactful youth development programs throughout the State of
Oklahoma; and
WHEREAS, their Scouts and dedicated volunteers collectively
contribute more than two hundred and eighty-eight million
(288,000,000) volunteer hours annually in service to communities
across the state and nation.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES
OF THE 2nd SESSION OF THE 60TH OKLAHOMA LEGISLATURE:
THAT the Oklahoma House of Representatives recognizes the long
history of Scouting America.
THAT the Oklahoma House of Representatives recognizes the
important work done by Scouting America.
THAT the Oklahoma House of Representatives recognizes the
community importance of Scouting America.
THAT the Oklahoma House of Representatives commemorates February
18 as Scout Day at the Oklahoma Capitol.
