RESOLUTION NO. 1054 By: McCane
A Resolution designating April 2026 as Library Month
in the State of Oklahoma.
WHEREAS, libraries of all types, including school, public,
academic, and special libraries, serve as essential institutions
that provide equitable access to information, ideas, and resources
in both print and digital formats for people of all ages; and
WHEREAS, libraries play a critical role in promoting literacy
and lifelong learning by offering robust collections, early literacy
programs, and educational services that support school readiness and
academic achievement; and
WHEREAS, libraries foster a love of reading and intellectual
exploration by providing welcoming spaces, knowledgeable staff, and
engaging programs that inspire curiosity, creativity, and informed
inquiry; and
WHEREAS, librarians and library professionals are highly trained
individuals who guide users in accessing, evaluating, and using
information effectively, helping to develop critical thinking and
information literacy skills necessary for success in school, work,
and civic life; and
WHEREAS, libraries uphold the fundamental principles of
intellectual freedom as protected by the First Amendment, ensuring
access to a broad range of viewpoints and ideas without censorship;
and
WHEREAS, libraries strengthen communities by supporting early
childhood development, family engagement, workforce readiness, and
lifelong education, contributing to an informed and literate
society; and

WHEREAS, recognizing and supporting libraries and library
professionals is essential to maintaining vibrant, inclusive, and
knowledgeable communities throughout the State of Oklahoma;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES
OF THE 2ND SESSION OF THE 60TH OKLAHOMA LEGISLATURE:
THAT the month of April 2026 is hereby designated as Library
Month in the State of Oklahoma, in recognition of the invaluable
contributions of libraries and library professionals to literacy,
education, intellectual freedom, and the well-being of all
residents.
Adopted by the House of Representatives the 29th day of April,
2026.
