RESOLUTION NO. 1055 By: Patzkowsky

A Resolution declaring April 29, 2026, as Oklahoma
Agriculture Day; recognizing and celebrating
agriculture's impact on Oklahoma's heritage and
economy; and directing distribution.

WHEREAS, agriculture is one of Oklahoma's leading industries and
its associated production, processing, and marketing sectors
combined provide nearly 200,000 jobs and contribute more than $28
billion to our state's economy; and

WHEREAS, Oklahoma ranks fourth nationally with more than 69,700
farms and ranches, utilizing 32.8 million acres of Oklahoma's rich
land to provide food, fiber, and other necessities of life to
Oklahomans and people across the world; and

WHEREAS, Oklahoma is known as the nation's premier spot for
wheat production and research, ranking third for winter wheat
bushels harvested annually; and

WHEREAS, Oklahoma is also America's second-leading provider of
beef cows with nearly two million head and the third-most cattle
operations at more than 43,000, featuring over 4.65 million beef and
dairy cattle; and

WHEREAS, Oklahoma also ranks as the second top provider of rye
nationally and is one of the highest producers of soybeans, cotton,
poultry, and pork in the United States; and

WHEREAS, agriculture provides a major source of employment for
Oklahoma's workforce, with 1-in-50 jobs supported by the pork
industry and another 30,000 people employed by the poultry industry
as just two examples of the vast reach and importance of agriculture
in our state; and

WHEREAS, the agriculture industry's success is vital to
maintaining the strength of Oklahoma's economy, the standard of
living for our citizens, and our presence in the world trade market;
and

WHEREAS, it is important for all Oklahomans to understand the
role agriculture plays in their daily lives, whether they live in
urban or rural areas.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES
OF THE 2ND SESSION OF THE 60TH OKLAHOMA LEGISLATURE:

THAT the Oklahoma House of Representatives declares April 29,
2026, as Oklahoma Agriculture Day at the Capitol.

THAT the Oklahoma House of Representatives recognizes and
celebrates agriculture's impact on our state's heritage and economy.

THAT a copy of this resolution be distributed to Oklahoma
Secretary and Commissioner of Agriculture Blayne Arthur.

Adopted by the House of Representatives the 29th day of April,
2026.
