RESOLUTION 27 By: Standridge
AS INTRODUCED
A Resolution encouraging Oklahomans to celebrate the
250th anniversary of the founding of the United
States by spending 250 minutes in Oklahoma’s state
parks.
WHEREAS, July 4, 2026, marks the 250th anniversary of the
adoption of the Declaration of Independence by the Second
Continental Congress in Philadelphia, signifying the founding of the
United States of America; and
WHEREAS, the 250th anniversary of American independence presents
a historic opportunity for reflection, education, and civic
engagement across the nation, including here in the State of
Oklahoma; and
WHEREAS, celebrating the founding of this great nation includes
honoring America’s God-given natural beauty, vast open spaces, and
public lands that have shaped our national identity and way of life;
and

WHEREAS, people with access to local parks and recreation
facilities tend to be more active, reducing sedentary behavior and
leading to lasting lifestyle changes; and
WHEREAS, Oklahoma is home to 38 state parks, totaling more than
80,000 acres of unique landscapes that offer families endless
opportunities for outdoor recreation; and
WHEREAS, access to nature and outdoor recreation promotes
physical health and mental well-being, and encourages all Oklahomans
to adopt healthier habits.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE 2ND SESSION
OF THE 60TH OKLAHOMA LEGISLATURE:
THAT the Oklahoma Senate recognizes and commemorates the
upcoming 250th anniversary of American independence.
THAT the Oklahoma Senate encourages all Oklahomans to celebrate
America’s 250th birthday by spending at least 250 minutes in
Oklahoma state parks this year.
THAT the Oklahoma Senate affirms the importance of outdoor
recreation, conservation, and healthy living as part of a renewed
commitment to making Oklahomans healthier for generations to come.
