AS INTRODUCED

A Resolution recognizing March 24, 2026, as
University of Oklahoma Day at the Capitol; and
celebrating the institution’s accomplishments.

WHEREAS, the University of Oklahoma is the state’s flagship
university, founded in December 1890; and
WHEREAS, the University of Oklahoma is a storied institution,
whose stories continue to span every aspect of student life across
three campuses that are full of curiosity, vigor, and undying
spirit; and
WHEREAS, the mission of the University of Oklahoma is to provide
the best possible educational experience for students through
excellence in teaching, research, and creative activity, and service
to the state and society; and
WHEREAS, the University of Oklahoma remains a leader in higher
education through collaborative cross-campus efforts that align
academic excellence, student success, research innovation, and
community impact; and

WHEREAS, the University of Oklahoma ranks in the top 25% of all
universities nationwide, top 5 in the region, and was named the
number 1 university in Oklahoma, according to U.S. News and World
Report’s 2026 Best Colleges list; and
WHEREAS, the University of Oklahoma boasts a total undergraduate
enrollment of more than 23,000 and over 36,500 total enrollments,
while maintaining a student-faculty ratio of 18:1; and
WHEREAS, the 2025 freshman class of Sooners is the largest in
state history and the fifth consecutive record-breaking freshman
class at the university; and
WHEREAS, the University of Oklahoma is the top research
university in Oklahoma, the fourth fastest-growing research
university in the nation, and among the top 8% of research
universities in the United States; and
WHEREAS, the University of Oklahoma is home to the top aviation
program in the nation; and
WHEREAS, the University of Oklahoma prepares graduates with
practical, hands-on experience and industry-ready skills, equipping
them for successful careers in the top five sectors employing
University of Oklahoma alumni: health care, oil and gas, K–12
education, financial services, and manufacturing; and
WHEREAS, collectively, the University of Oklahoma system is a
$2.17 billion enterprise, one of the greatest assets of the State of
Oklahoma.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE 2ND SESSION
OF THE 60TH OKLAHOMA LEGISLATURE:
THAT the Oklahoma State Senate recognizes March 24, 2026, as
University of Oklahoma Day at the Oklahoma State Capitol.
THAT the Oklahoma State Senate celebrates the academic,
athletic, research, and community accomplishments of the University
of Oklahoma.
