ENROLLED SENATE
RESOLUTION NO. 39 By: Bullard, Kern, Alvord,
Howard, and Burns
A Resolution celebrating the history of U.S. Route
70; and recognizing the role the highway has played
in the growth of industry, commerce, and tourism in
southern Oklahoma.
WHEREAS, U.S. Route 70 is one of Oklahoma’s historic east-west
highways, stretching across southern Oklahoma and connecting the
state to neighboring states; and
WHEREAS, officially designated on December 7, 1926, U.S. Route
70 stretches for 289 miles from the Texas state line near Davidson,
Oklahoma, to the Arkansas state line near Broken Bow; and
WHEREAS, U.S. Route 70 runs through major Oklahoma cities,
including Ardmore, Durant, Hugo, and Idabel, and has helped grow
local businesses and industries that contribute to the state’s
economy; and
WHEREAS, although the route has changed over the decades, this
highway has served as an important transportation corridor for
Oklahoma families, farmers, truckers, and tourists traveling through
southern Oklahoma; and
WHEREAS, U.S. Route 70 has also helped connect Oklahomans and
visitors alike to many of southern Oklahoma’s beautiful scenic
areas, historic towns, lakes, and outdoor recreation destinations;
and
WHEREAS, small businesses, restaurants, hotels, and tourist
attractions have benefited from the steady flow of traffic along
U.S. Route 70; and

WHEREAS, the continued maintenance and improvement of U.S. Route
70 and other highways remain vital to supporting economic growth and
opportunity for the residents of southern Oklahoma.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE 2ND SESSION
OF THE 60TH OKLAHOMA LEGISLATURE:
THAT the Oklahoma State Senate celebrates the historic
significance and continued importance of U.S. Route 70 to the
communities across southern Oklahoma and the economic benefits it
brings to the region.
THAT the Oklahoma State Senate celebrates the role that U.S.
Route 70 has played in growing industry, tourism, and travel across
the region.
