A Resolution designating the second week in April as
Lung Cancer Action Week.

WHEREAS, the American Lung Association has been working to
ensure that fewer people are diagnosed with lung cancer and those
living with the disease live longer; and

WHEREAS, lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer deaths; and

WHEREAS, lung cancer screening saves lives, and advocacy and
increased awareness will result in more high-risk individuals
getting screened; and

WHEREAS, an individual is deemed high-risk if he or she is aged
50 to 80 years old and has a smoking history of 20 or more pack
years; and

WHEREAS, in Oklahoma, only 10.4% of those at high risk receive a
lung cancer screening; and

WHEREAS, public support for research funding will result in new
treatments and better methods of early detection.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE 2ND SESSION
OF THE 60TH OKLAHOMA LEGISLATURE:

THAT the Oklahoma State Senate hereby designates the second week
in April as Lung Cancer Action Week throughout the state and
encourages all residents of Oklahoma to learn more about lung
cancer, risk factors, and early detection, and take action.

Adopted by the Senate the 8th day of April, 2026.
