ENROLLED SENATE
RESOLUTION NO. 44 By: Hicks, Boren, Brooks,
Dossett, Goodwin, Kirt,
Mann, and Nice
A Resolution recognizing the first week of May as
Teacher Appreciation Week; and honoring Oklahoma
educators.
WHEREAS, in 1953, Eleanor Roosevelt urged Congress to set aside
a day to recognize educators; and
WHEREAS, in 1984, the National Parent Teacher Association
designated the first week of May as Teacher Appreciation Week. Soon
after, Teacher Appreciation Day, originally celebrated in March, was
moved to May to align with the weeklong celebration; and
WHEREAS, approximately 42,556 Oklahoma educators teach more than
686,718 students enrolled in pre-k through 12th grade; and
WHEREAS, Oklahoma teachers spend countless hours preparing
lessons, evaluating progress, counseling and coaching students, and
performing community service; and
WHEREAS, Oklahoma teachers positively impact their students
every day, changing their lives for the better; and
WHEREAS, teachers are the cornerstone of the American education
system, providing knowledge, skills, and guidance to the next
generation.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE 2ND SESSION
OF THE 60TH OKLAHOMA LEGISLATURE:

THAT the week of May 4 through 8, 2026, is recognized as Teacher
Appreciation Week in the State of Oklahoma.
