83rd OREGON LEGISLATIVE ASSEMBLY--2025 Regular Session
Enrolled
Senate Concurrent Resolution 6
Sponsored by Senator PROZANSKI; Senator MANNING JR, Representative FRAGALA (Presession
filed.)
Whereas South Eugene High School’s South Eugene Robotics Team (SERT) is a diverse, inclu-
sive group of multi-disciplinary robotics enthusiasts that builds industrial-sized robots to compete in
the international FIRST Robotics Competition, a series of events that encourages high school stu-
dents to compete and cooperate with one another to advance innovation in robotics and engineering
and promotes a lifelong appreciation for science, technology, engineering and math (STEM); and
Whereas SERT welcomes new members of all backgrounds and levels of experience, nurturing
each member’s unique strengths and developing skillsets that contribute to the team’s goals and
enrich individual members’ lived experiences; and
Whereas fully trained SERT team members specialize in one of seven key areas, including
competition strategy, computer-aided design (CAD), mechanical engineering, electrical engineering,
software development, robot operation and business development; and
Whereas since 2013, SERT has built more than 15 competition robots, from reliable contenders
like Excaliber and Byter to award-winning powerhouse performers like Chimera, Tetra, Marvin and
Millennium Carwash (known to friends as Millie); and
Whereas SERT’s innovations in robotics have earned the group countless accolades, including,
in both 2019 and 2023, the Ford-sponsored Autonomous Award, granted to robotics teams that dem-
onstrate consistent and reliable performance during autonomous robot operation; and
Whereas in 2024, SERT ranked first in the FIRST Pacific Northwest District competition and
67th in the FIRST World Championship competition, which saw the participation of more than 3,000
teams from around the globe; and
Whereas SERT has a long tradition of community service, raising awareness of and increasing
access to robotics and other STEM programs for children and taking a hands-on approach to solving
real-world challenges; and
Whereas through its Unified Robotics program, SERT guides neurodiverse students through the
process of designing and building LEGO robots, culminating in a championship tournament and
celebration;and
Whereas inspired by the national Go Baby Go initiative, SERT developed a method to retrofit
toy ride-on trucks with joysticks to help young children with limited mobility learn how to operate
and qualify for electric wheelchairs, and SERT freely shares detailed instructions for the modifica-
tions via the SERT website; and
Whereas for more than 12 years, SERT’s dedicated team of students, mentors and volunteers
have made South Eugene proud, with an infectious enthusiasm for STEM and a proven track record
of positively impacting the lives of those around them; now, therefore,
Be It Resolved by the Legislative Assembly of the State of Oregon:
That we, the members of the Eighty-third Legislative Assembly, recognize and honor the South
Eugene Robotics Team for its remarkable accomplishments in the field of robotics and its unyielding
commitment to the greater good; and be it further
Resolved, That a copy of this resolution shall be presented to the South Eugene Robotics Team
as an expression of our great appreciation for its contributions to the State of Oregon.
