A RESOLUTION
Recognizing the service of the Honorable Jerry A. Stern, an 11-
term former member of the House of Representatives, and
expressing condolences upon his death on December 11, 2024,
in Martinsburg, Blair County, at 69 years of age.
WHEREAS, The House of Representatives mourns the loss of
Jerry A. Stern, who served the 80th District with distinction,
representing Bedford and Blair Counties from 1993 through 2002
and Blair County from 2003 through January 6, 2015; and
WHEREAS, With integrity and purpose, Mr. Stern championed
agriculture, tourism promotion, library and school funding and
employment; and
WHEREAS, With those same values, Mr. Stern mentored other
members of the General Assembly; and
WHEREAS, From 2007 through 2010, Mr. Stern earned respect for
his leadership as Minority Caucus Secretary; and
WHEREAS, From 2011 through 2014, Mr. Stern provided
leadership as chair of the Tourism and Recreational Development
Committee; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Stern further served the General Assembly and

the residents of this Commonwealth as an appointed member of the
Pennsylvania Commission on Crime and Delinquency, the Task Force
on Commonwealth-Owned Lands and the Legislative Data Processing
Center Commission; and
WHEREAS, Born January 11, 1955, in Roaring Spring, Blair
County, Mr. Stern was a son of the late Merle and Vera Replogle
Stern; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Stern was a graduate of Central High School in
Martinsburg and a former Wineland IGA manager; and
WHEREAS, At the Blair County Courthouse, Mr. Stern worked as
deputy prothonotary from 1982 through 1989 and prothonotary and
clerk of courts from 1989 through his 1992 election to the House
of Representatives; and
WHEREAS, The Hollidaysburg American Legion Ambulance Service,
Hollidaysburg Veterans Home, Nason Foundation, Blair County Farm
Bureau, American Cancer Society, Martinsburg Rotary Club,
Martinsburg Sportsmen's Association, Cobras Softball Team and
other organizations benefited from Mr. Stern's energies and
experience; and
WHEREAS, A lifelong member of Martinsburg Grace Brethren
Church, Mr. Stern is remembered for his faithful service to his
congregation and community; and
WHEREAS, The House of Representatives remembers Mr. Stern's
contributions and achievements as a lawmaker and mentor; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Stern's wife Susan E. Stern, his children Jason
Stern and Gretchen Stern Bettwy and his grandchildren survive
him; therefore be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives recognize the
service of the Honorable Jerry A. Stern, an 11-term former
member of the House of Representatives, and express condolences

upon his death on December 11, 2024, in Martinsburg, Blair
County, at 69 years of age; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this resolution be transmitted to
the family of Jerry A. Stern.
