A RESOLUTION
Recognizing the month of May 2025 as "Menstrual Health Awareness
Month" in Pennsylvania.
WHEREAS, Menstrual health is characterized by how physical,
mental and social well-being relates to the menstrual cycle; and
WHEREAS, The menstrual cycle is a biological cycle that
typically lasts between 24 and 38 days; and
WHEREAS, The menstrual cycle begins on the first day of
menstruation, also known as a period, and ends on the first day
of the following menstruation; and
WHEREAS, The menstrual cycle can undergo significant changes
as a person ages; and
WHEREAS, Every day, roughly 800 million women and girls are
menstruating; and
WHEREAS, Many women and girls do not have access to
comprehensive education on menstruation; and
WHEREAS, A number of women and girls lack access to menstrual
hygiene products, including sanitary pads, tampons, menstrual

cups or period underwear; and
WHEREAS, As many as four in five students have missed class
time or know someone who has due to the lack of access to
menstrual hygiene products; and
WHEREAS, An estimated 14% to 25% of women and girls have
irregular menstrual cycles; and
WHEREAS, Menstrual irregularities occur more frequently in
low-income and minority groups; and
WHEREAS, Women and girls may delay seeking treatment for
severe pain or irregularities; and
WHEREAS, Teens and adults have reported feeling negatively
affected by the stigma associated with menstruation; and
WHEREAS, May 28 is recognized around the world as "Menstrual
Hygiene Day," a day dedicated to the goal of reducing the stigma
surrounding menstruation; therefore be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives recognize the
month of May 2025 as "Menstrual Health Awareness Month" in
Pennsylvania.
