A RESOLUTION
Recognizing the month of May 2025 as "National Water Safety
Month" in Pennsylvania.
WHEREAS, The residents of this Commonwealth understand the
vital role that swimming and aquatic-related activities play in
good physical and mental health and enhance the quality of life
for all people; and
WHEREAS, Education regarding the topic of water safety is
essential to preventing drownings and recreational water-related
injuries; and
WHEREAS, In boating accidents in this Commonwealth from 2022
to 2024, of 28 fatalities involving boats, only eight
individuals were wearing life jackets; and
WHEREAS, In 2021, 23 year old James DeAngelo, a graduate from
Peters Township High School, drowned at a marina in Washington
County, suspected to be caused by an electrical shock from below
the water; and
WHEREAS, Members of the recreational water industry,

including the Pool and Hot Tub Alliance, American Red Cross,
National Drowning Prevention Alliance, World Waterpark
Association and the National Recreation and Parks Association,
have combined resources in an effort to educate Americans to be
"water aware" during "National Water Safety Month" in May; and
WHEREAS, These organizations are using this opportunity to
promote water safety by providing education on preventing
recreational water-related injuries and deaths to families and
individuals of all ages, whether owners of private pools, users
of public swimming facilities or visitors to water parks;
therefore be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives recognize the
month of May 2025 as "National Water Safety Month" in
Pennsylvania.
