A RESOLUTION
Recognizing May 6, 2025, as "World Asthma Day" in Pennsylvania.
WHEREAS, The National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute
defines asthma as a chronic lung disease that inflames and
narrows the airways, resulting in recurring periods of wheezing,
chest tightness, shortness of breath and chronic coughing; and
WHEREAS, Approximately 25 million, or 1 in 12, individuals in
the United States are known to have asthma; and
WHEREAS, The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention
reported that an estimated 1 million adults and an estimated
300,000 children in Pennsylvania suffer from asthma; and
WHEREAS, There is no known cure for asthma, but once asthma
is properly diagnosed and a treatment plan is implemented,
individuals are able to better manage symptoms and improve their
quality of life; and
WHEREAS, In an effort to raise awareness about asthma and
improve asthma care throughout the world, health care groups,

asthma educators, patients and advocates annually celebrate the
first Tuesday of May as "World Asthma Day"; and
WHEREAS, This day encourages individuals to focus on daily
management and ongoing education of asthma and to identify
allergens and irritants that can lead to and worsen asthma
attacks; and
WHEREAS, Individuals who participate in "World Asthma Day"
use this occasion as an opportunity to organize and participate
in local events, screenings and group discussions to become more
knowledgeable about asthma control; therefore be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives recognize May 6,
2025, as "World Asthma Day" in Pennsylvania; and be it further
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives encourage all
residents of this Commonwealth to work together to help all
Pennsylvanians living with asthma control their symptoms.
