A RESOLUTION
Designating the week of April 7 through 11, 2025, as "Health
Equity Week" in Pennsylvania.
WHEREAS, The Health Equity Leader Exchange Network suggests
that health equity exists when all people, regardless of age,
race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, disability,
religion, socioeconomic status, geographic location or other
societal constructs, have fair and just access, opportunity and
resources to achieve their highest potential for health; and
WHEREAS, The social determinants of health are factors in the
social environment that contribute to or detract from the health
of individuals and communities; and
WHEREAS, The political determinants of health involve the
systematic process of structuring relationships, distributing
resources and administering power, operating simultaneously in
ways that mutually reinforce or influence one another to shape
opportunities that either advance health equity or exacerbate
health inequities; and

WHEREAS, Both the social and political determinants of health
have greatly impacted the lives of all people especially within
marginalized communities; and
WHEREAS, Many public, private, nonprofit and governmental
organizations have worked honorably to identify and support
communities and populations impacted by health inequities; and
WHEREAS, These efforts have led to significant progress but
have also made clear that more education, partnerships and
systematic change is needed; and
WHEREAS, Recognizing "Health Equity Week" in Pennsylvania
sends a strong message to all residents of this Commonwealth
that our State recognizes the manifold health inequities faced
by residents and supports effective methods of addressing those
health inequities; therefore be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives designate the
week of April 7 through 11, 2025, as "Health Equity Week" in
Pennsylvania to raise awareness of health inequities and to call
on all residents to join in the work of making health equity
realized throughout all sectors and communities in this
Commonwealth.
