A RESOLUTION
Designating the week of June 16 through 22, 2025, as "Women in
Law Enforcement Week" in Pennsylvania.
WHEREAS, The Pennsylvania State Police became the nation's
first state police agency to fully integrate women troopers into
the regular command structure in 1972; and
WHEREAS, The fourteen women of the 31st Cadet Class paved the
way for women in law enforcement in this Commonwealth; and
WHEREAS, Today, there are approximately 450 women who serve
in the Pennsylvania State Police, although women account for
fewer than 10% of all State troopers; and
WHEREAS, Women in law enforcement remain underrepresented
throughout this Commonwealth and must contend with the
persisting "glass ceiling," which can limit advancement into
leadership roles; and
WHEREAS, Many women in law enforcement must balance their
careers with familial responsibilities of being a mother and
caretaker; and

WHEREAS, Research has shown that increasing the number of
women in law enforcement leads to positive outcomes, such as
improved handling of domestic violence cases; and
WHEREAS, Law enforcement professionals in this Commonwealth
continuously make personal sacrifices to serve our communities
throughout their careers; and
WHEREAS, Women in law enforcement face unique challenges in
the workforce due to their historic underrepresentation; and
WHEREAS, These remarkable and courageous women deserve to be
recognized for their contributions to the field of law
enforcement in the face of such adversity; therefore be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives designate the
week of June 16 through 22, 2025, as "Women in Law Enforcement
Week" in Pennsylvania.
