A RESOLUTION
Mourning the loss of the Honorable Matthew R. Gergely of
McKeesport, Allegheny County, respected member of the House
of Representatives from the 35th District, who died January
19, 2025, at 45 years of age.
WHEREAS, The House of Representatives commends Representative
Gergely's distinguished service to the General Assembly from
February 21, 2023, through January 19, 2025; and
WHEREAS, The House of Representatives commends Representative
Gergely's important contributions to the Mon Valley and the
Allegheny County delegation; and
WHEREAS, A former McKeesport Area School District business
manager and McKeesport city administrator and chief revenue
officer, Representative Gergely won the House of
Representatives' special election on February 7, 2023; and
WHEREAS, Representative Gergely was reelected to the House on
November 5, 2024; and
WHEREAS, Representative Gergely's committee assignments
included the Consumer Protection and Professional Licensure
Committee, Game and Fisheries Committee, Insurance Committee and

Liquor Control Committee; and
WHEREAS, In April 2024, Representative Gergely's bill
amending The Clinical Laboratory Act to enhance plasma supply
was enacted as Act 6 of 2024; and
WHEREAS, In July 2024, Representative Gergely's Liquor Code
bill providing flexibility for licensee hiring was enacted as
Act 57 of 2024; and
WHEREAS, To honor Representative Gergely, the Flag of
Pennsylvania is flying at half-staff at public buildings until
his interment at McKeesport and Versailles Cemetery; and
WHEREAS, A graduate of McKeesport Area High School and
Indiana University of Pennsylvania, Representative Gergely was a
son of Sofia Lundberg Simile and the late Robert S. Gergely; and
WHEREAS, Representative Gergely's life's work in municipal
and State government reflected his ideals for public and
personal investment in health, safety, education and employment;
and
WHEREAS, Representative Gergely faithfully dedicated his
energies to solving problems and allocating resources for the
benefit of residents of his native McKeesport and western
Pennsylvania; and
WHEREAS, At his legislative offices in Harrisburg,
McKeesport, Clairton and Munhall, Representative Gergely
improved their lives through his focus on constituent services,
his notable fairness and his easy friendships; and
WHEREAS, Representative Gergely's pride and care for his
wife, Holly Warren Gergely, and their young sons, Mason and
Jerrett, was central to this work; therefore be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives mourn the loss of
the Honorable Matthew R. Gergely of McKeesport, Allegheny
