A RESOLUTION
Urging the Congress of the United States and the United States
Department of Veterans Affairs to enable veterans to access
hyperbaric oxygen therapy for both traumatic brain injury and
post-traumatic stress disorder.
WHEREAS, The courageous men and women who have served in the
United States Armed Forces have made immense sacrifices to
protect our nation and uphold its values; and
WHEREAS, Many veterans suffer from traumatic brain injury and
post-traumatic stress disorder as a result of their service,
significantly impacting their quality of life and overall well-
being; and
WHEREAS, Hyperbaric oxygen therapy is a promising and
powerful procedure in treating both traumatic brain injury and
post-traumatic stress disorder by increasing oxygen levels in
the body, promoting healing and reducing inflammation; and
WHEREAS, Despite its potential benefits, hyperbaric oxygen
therapy remains limited for veterans due to various barriers,
including lack of awareness, availability and limited insurance
coverage; and

WHEREAS, The United States Department of Veterans Affairs
currently offers hyperbaric oxygen therapy as a treatment for a
limited number of veterans with persistent post-traumatic stress
disorder symptoms; and
WHEREAS, Ongoing advocacy by American Legion, Vietnam
Veterans of America, AMVETS and other organizations seeks to
widen availability of hyperbaric oxygen therapy for more
veterans, recognizing its advantages; and
WHEREAS, United States Congressman Gregory Murphy proposed
legislation (H.R. 1336), known as the "Veterans National
Traumatic Brain Injury Treatment Act," which proposes a five-
year pilot program for hyperbaric oxygen therapy for veterans
suffering from traumatic brain injury and post-traumatic stress
disorder; and
WHEREAS, Providing veterans with greater access to hyperbaric
oxygen therapy could significantly improve their health outcomes
and enhance their ability to reintegrate into civilian life;
therefore be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the
Commonwealth of Pennsylvania urge the Congress of the United
States and the United States Department of Veterans Affairs to
enable veterans to access hyperbaric oxygen therapy for both
traumatic brain injury and post-traumatic stress disorder; and
be it further
RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be transmitted to
the United States Secretary of Veterans Affairs, the presiding
officers of each house of Congress and each member of Congress
from Pennsylvania.
