A RESOLUTION
Designating July 1, 2026, as "Canada Day" in Pennsylvania to
celebrate the enduring relationship between the Commonwealth
of Pennsylvania and Canada.
WHEREAS, The Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and Canada share a
longstanding and productive relationship rooted in geographic
proximity, shared democratic values and a commitment to economic
growth and regional stability; and
WHEREAS, Canada is Pennsylvania's largest international
trading partner, supporting tens of thousands of jobs across
Pennsylvania through robust cross-border trade in energy,
manufacturing, agriculture, technology and natural resources;
and
WHEREAS, The Great Lakes-St. Lawrence region, encompassing
Pennsylvania and multiple Canadian provinces, represents one of
the largest integrated economic regions in the world, supporting
advanced manufacturing, energy production, agriculture,
transportation and innovation; and
WHEREAS, Pennsylvania's access to the Great Lakes Basin,

particularly through Lake Erie, strengthens its connection to
Canadian markets and reinforces shared stewardship of vital
freshwater resources; and
WHEREAS, Cross-border supply chains between Pennsylvania and
Canada are deeply intertwined, particularly in industries such
as steel, automotive manufacturing, energy, life sciences and
agriculture, enhancing competitiveness and resilience on both
sides of the border; and
WHEREAS, Pennsylvania and Canada maintain strong
collaboration in energy development and reliability, including
nuclear energy, hydropower, natural gas and emerging clean
energy technologies; and
WHEREAS, Academic institutions, research organizations and
workforce development programs in Pennsylvania and Canada
regularly partner to advance innovation, scientific discovery
and talent exchange; and
WHEREAS, Cultural and people-to-people ties, including
tourism, education, sports, arts and shared heritage, continue
to strengthen mutual understanding and cooperation between
Pennsylvanians and Canadians; and
WHEREAS, The Council of State Governments Eastern Regional
Conference and its Canada-United States Relations Committee
serve as important forums for fostering dialogue, collaboration
and policy alignment between Pennsylvania and Canadian
provinces; and
WHEREAS, Continued cooperation between Pennsylvania and
Canada is essential to addressing shared challenges, including
economic competitiveness, infrastructure modernization,
environmental sustainability and workforce development;

RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the
Commonwealth of Pennsylvania designate July 1, 2026, as "Canada
Day" in Pennsylvania to celebrate the enduring relationship
between the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and Canada; and be it
further
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the
Commonwealth of Pennsylvania encourage residents, businesses and
institutions throughout Pennsylvania to observe this day in
recognition of the close ties between Pennsylvania and Canada;
and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this resolution be transmitted to
the Consulate General of Canada and to appropriate governmental
and trade partners to reaffirm Pennsylvania's commitment to
continued collaboration and friendship.
