A RESOLUTION
Designating the Monday after Thanksgiving as "Pennsylvania
Sportsmen's Day" in Pennsylvania.
WHEREAS, Pennsylvania sportsmen, including hunters, anglers,
boaters and trappers, have long contributed to this
Commonwealth's outdoor heritage, conservation ethic and way of
life; and
WHEREAS, The Commonwealth's hunting, fishing and boating
programs administered through the Pennsylvania Game Commission
and the Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission receive no State
General Fund tax revenue, but are supported by Pennsylvania
hunters, anglers, boaters and trappers through licenses,
permits, registrations, fees and related Federal excise tax
revenues; and
WHEREAS, These user-based dollars support wildlife and
fisheries management, habitat conservation, public access,
education, enforcement and sporting traditions; and
WHEREAS, Hunting, fishing, boating and trapping are
traditions shared among families, neighbors, friends and

generations of Pennsylvanians; and
WHEREAS, Generations of hunters have learned safety,
patience, responsibility, respect for wildlife and respect for
private and public lands while hunting alongside parents,
grandparents, relatives, mentors and friends; and
WHEREAS, The future of hunting depends upon families, mentors
and hunting groups passing along knowledge, ethics of
responsible conservation, skills and traditions to younger
generations; and
WHEREAS, For many Pennsylvanians, gathering at deer camp
before the opening of firearms deer season is a cherished
tradition rooted in family, fellowship, storytelling,
preparation and shared respect for the outdoors; and
WHEREAS, The opening of firearms deer season, historically
observed for many years on the Monday after Thanksgiving, has
long been meaningful to families, rural communities, schools,
workplaces and local businesses across this Commonwealth; and
WHEREAS, As the timing of that opening has changed in recent
years, the importance of preserving hunting traditions, deer
camp and multigenerational participation remains clear; and
WHEREAS, The traditions of hunting, fishing, boating and
trapping support small businesses throughout Pennsylvania,
including outfitters, guides, sporting goods stores,
campgrounds, restaurants and lodging establishments; therefore
be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives designate the
Monday after Thanksgiving as "Pennsylvania Sportsmen's Day" in
Pennsylvania; and be it further
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives recognize
Pennsylvania sportsmen for their support of wildlife management,
