A RESOLUTION
Designating the month of June 2026 as "Scoliosis Awareness
Month" in Pennsylvania.
WHEREAS, Scoliosis is a condition characterized by an
abnormal side to side curvature of the spine, often appearing as
an "S" or "C" shape rather than a straight line; and
WHEREAS, An estimated 6 million to 9 million people in the
United States are affected by scoliosis, with idiopathic
scoliosis, the most common form, typically developing in
preteens and teenagers; and
WHEREAS, Early detection through school screenings and
regular physical examinations is critical to preventing severe
spinal deformity and reducing the need for invasive surgical
procedures; and
WHEREAS, Organizations such as the Scoliosis Research Society
and the National Scoliosis Foundation work tirelessly to unite
patients, families and clinicians in a collaborative effort to
advocate for enhanced patient care, awareness and protection;
and

WHEREAS, Young advocates in this Commonwealth, like Ella from
the 88th Legislative District, are leading initiatives to
increase public understanding, provide peer support and partner
with medical providers to expand access to resources across this
Commonwealth; therefore be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives designate the
month of June 2026 as "Scoliosis Awareness Month" in
Pennsylvania; and be it further
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives urge all
Pennsylvanians to learn more about this condition and support
early screening efforts to improve the quality of life for
individuals affected by scoliosis.
